About author and war historian Stuart Lloyd

Stuart Lloyd is an acclaimed WWII historian and author specializing in World War II military history in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. A former battlefield guide, Stuart has led in-depth military history tours across the region, bringing to life the true stories of POWs, the Thai-Burma Death Railway, and the fall of Singapore. (He has lived in Asia for 25 years: the photos above show him walking the length of the Death Railway from Banpong to the Burma border, and experiencing what it's like to be a POW -- being fingerprinted before spending time in a historic Malaysian gaol ... just for research purposes of course!)

His passion for military history runs deep: his great-grandfather fought with distinction in the Imperial Light Horse Regiment, earning medals for bravery during the relief of the Siege of Mafeking in the Boer War.

Lloyd’s field research spans beyond Southeast Asia, with boots-on-the-ground investigations at Pearl Harbor (Hawaii), Papua New Guinea, Borneo, the Philippines, and China, uncovering forgotten narratives from the Asia-Pacific theatre of WWII. His books blend emotional power with rigorous scholarship, making them essential reading for anyone interested in the Pacific War, POW experiences, and the Japanese occupation of Southeast Asia.
